NEIGHBORHOOD
INFO
PENSACOLA
Pensacola
is the county seat of Escambia County in extreme northwestern
Florida. Founded before St. Augustine, the City of Five Flags
has flown the Spanish, French, English, Confederate and US flags
during its 400 year history.
Timber and fishing flourished after the Civil War until the turn
of the last century. The navy yard became a naval air station
in 1913, and the large aviation training school helped the city's
economy. As the timber and fishing industries waned, Pensacola
developed into a regional hub for health care and retail, with
an important manufacturing sector, a strong tourism presence and
a broadly diversified economy. It's an ideal business location,
with a cost of doing business and a cost of living that are both
well below the national average.
Schools
Pensacola
schools are part of the Escambia County School District. Indeed,
the Escambia School District consistently graduates students who
score higher on aptitude tests than the state or national average.
