This quiet town began in 1931 as an idea for what we might now call a “master-planned community” called Port Dixie. It captured the eye of investors because it was close to all the excitement of the surrounding towns, but was still quaint enough to draw the intention of those who wanted to live a peaceful life. Shalimar which means by “the beautiful water” is home to mostly military families and the commercial development is on the rise.

Shalimar is a great place to raise children with three excellent schools and offers places where people can fellowship, such as the winery, and the Cherokee Park, and stadium that was newly built.  It’s also extremely popular for the growing retirement community.  If you’re looking for a nice place to just settle down Shalimar is the place to come and stay.
